Ford O’Connell’s response to today’s Politico Arena questions, “Trying times for Obama’s Gitmo policy?”
Of course there will be cries of alarm and angst from critics of the military commissions, and the Bush-haters will be hysterical. But sometimes no amount of wishful thinking can overcome reality. The Bush administration wasn’t pushing a political philosophy or some hidden agenda with the military commissions. They simply came up with the least objectionable (and so far, only practical) path to resolving the Gitmo detainee situation, and now the Obama administration agrees.
