The Hampton Roads Tea Party will probably stay neutral in Virginia’s second district after the nomination of GOP candidate Scott Rigell, according to the Virginian-Pilot’s Bill Bartel. Virginia’s Second Congressional District is considered one of the GOP’s two best pick-up opportunities in Virginia — the other being Democratic Rep. Tom Perrilello‘s seat in the Commonwealth’s Fifth Congressional District — and in both, tea partyers are loudly proclaiming their readiness to support a third party candidate. This is not good news for the GOP at a time when both Republicans candidates — Scott Rigell in VA-2 and Robert Hurt in VA-5 — need broad conservative support in their respective districts to win in November. If neither candidate can win Tea Party support, November will be rough.
