Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has a strong appeal among social conservatives, and this should translate to a good showing at the Iowa caucuses. Unfortunately for Santorum, the state of the U.S. economy, rather than social issues from which he gathers his base, will be at the forefront of the debate in 2012.
Santorum, a long shot, has a very narrow path that he must follow to reach the GOP presidential nomination. If he wants to push beyond Iowa, he will need to demonstrate a strong command of the fiscal issues that face everyday Americans.
