Team Obama really had no choice but to come out and announce the reelection bid now. Conservative operatives led by Karl Rove, the Koch brothers and the tea party are pounding the president around the country on everything from the economy to Libya.
Frankly, President Obama has yet to figure out how to use the bully pulpit of the White House to insulate him from these critics. His campaign team undoubtedly wants to get him out of Washington and on the stump where his rhetorical skills seem to connect better with his supporters.
Beyond polishing Obama’s image, this move is even more about fundraising. President Obamaâs goal is to raise in excess of $1 billion for his 2012 reelect. While Team Obama may surround itself with a cadre of master fundraisers and a crack team of high-end bundlers, it will take time to build a war chest on this scale. Just ask the RNC.
